  2. 2

Why do I have to renew my dog's license every year or every three years?

Cities and towns provide a lot of great services to help keep our communities safe and when it comes to pets, it’s easy for things to quickly become out of control. City officials are responsible for everything from animal control and pet rescue, to maintaining dog parks and trails. You do your best to keep your pet safe and happy but we all know, accidents happen. A license allows officials and your fellow citizens to identify an animal, contact their owner, and make decisions that are in the best interest of the pet.

  3. 3

Since the last time I licensed, my dog has been spayed or neutered. How can I update their profile to receive the correct rate?

The City of Syracuse provides discounted licensing rates for spayed/neutered dogs. If your pet has been sterilized since their last license, you will need to update their profile to reflect these changes. Once updated, you will automatically be charged the correct rate when you renew their license.

In order to receive the discounted rate, you will need to provide proof that your pet has been spayed or neutered. During the licensing process you are required to upload a legible digital file of the certificate. If you cannot locate your certificate, please contact your vet for assistance. If you already have an account click on the “View Submitted Documents” button on the right to upload and submit a file.

  4. 4

I renewed my dog's license but didn’t get a new tag. Why?

99% of the time it’s because you did not specify you would like a new tag when completing the renewal process. For the sake of not generating unnecessary waste, we would recommend only replacing your dog's tag if the tag has been lost or is showing signs of wear. You can order a replacement tag through your online account for $5.

  5. 5

Wondering when your new tag will arrive?

Typically tag shipments are received in the mail 10-12 business days after your order is processed. You can login anytime and access your profile and not to worry, city records will show your dog has an active license.

There’s no ifs ands or buts about it, licenses are required to be renewed prior to their expiration date for all dogs living in Syracuse.

The fine for an unlicensed dog in the City of Syracuse is $20 to $500.
